The field of human enhancement generates not only practices but also projects and prospects for the future. Indeed, enhancement refers to a wide spectrum of practices, from plastic surgery and performance enhancing drugs to the writing of science fiction anticipation scenarios. This composite set of practices, taken together, shape a patchwork vision of human and social life. Examples of this can be found in the NBIC Report on Converging Technologies, in which research policy proposals and visions of society are combined with the intent of producing concrete applications in the not so distant future. This final workshop will focus on the way visions and scenarios of the future circulate, both as cultural phenomena and as thought experiments that nourish prospective thinking, with either a purely descriptive aim or as the means of elaborating an ethics for the future.
